We
live in the hinterlands of
Western Massachusetts in the
beautiful Berkshire mountains.
My husband and two daughters
have lived here for 26 years. I
have been blessed with the
amazing ability to be a part of
the dog world since I have been
a child. Animals have always
been my love and early on I
became a veterinarian
technician, only to leave that
job eventually to become a
Labrador breeder, breeding only
English Labradors of the highest
caliber. All champion lines
coming only from thoroughly
tested lines, temperament and
health wise. I have been engaged
in this wonderful venture for
what seems like forever. I have
learned a lot and now I am
applying all that I have learned
to a new breed called the
Labradoodle.
My
interest was sparked when I
heard of the breed a few years
ago and at the same time my own
grandson was having a hard time
dealing with his allergies.
Thus, my quest to find the best
F1 labradoodle I could acquire,
health tested parents and
grandparents and a gentle loving
trainable temperament. After a
year of doing my homework I
bought a gorgeous F1(foundation
dog, first generation), from a
woman who had incredible dogs,
in temperament and health and
introduced her into my home. The
most amazing discovery was my
grandson could now be in my
house and not have a reaction to
my dog!! I had put my labs in
host homes and only had my F1 at
my own home. I was sold out!!!
Not only was my grandson not
allergic, the dog herself was
amazingly smart, kind, gentle
and athletic. We could play all
day and when it was chill time,
she had no problem. I continued
my venture and had every test
done on the Premium Breeders
list, of which I am proudly a
member of. She passed all tests
with flying colors! Some of the
best hip scores Tufts University
had seen!! So said the
orthopedic surgeon who did her
Penn hip and OFA x-rays and
after reading the results to me
said “Breed that dog!” That was
it, I was on my way to a dog I
believed in, and as so many
others also do.
I
have been involved in Therapy
dog work, canine search and
rescue, showing and training and
also a groomer. The labradoodle
is my new line of work and I
believe my dogs to be some of
the healthiest and best of the
breed out there.
We
are not a large kennel as my
dogs pretty much live in the
house with me or outside in our
beautiful fenced in backyard,
using kennel only occasionally
on a nice day if I’m away for
the day, otherwise they are with
me. I also have dogs of mine
living in host or Guardian
homes, where they get plenty of
love and attention and come back
to my home to have their
puppies. I am small and I intend
to stay small and continue to
hike, swim, kayak and love on my
dogs……
